Alberto Diana

Filmmaker and screenwriter.

Born in the Mediterranean Sea

I was born in Sardinia (Italy) in 1989.

I attended the Master in Creative documentary at Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona (Spain), after graduating in humanities in Italy.

My previous short documentary films have been screened in several international film festivals.

In 2019 my first feature documentary Fango rosso (Red Mud) was selected in competition at the 37th edition of Torino Film Festival.

In 2023 I directed my first short fiction film, Frarìa (Spark).

In 2025 my documentary feature In the Penal Colony, co-directed with Gaetano Crivaro, Silvia Perra and Ferruccio Goia, has been awarded at Locarno Film Festival (Marco Zucchi Award – Semaine de la Critique) and premiered at Bellaria Film Festival.

I am writing the script of my first fiction feature Intra Montes, developed at Mediterranean Film Institute.

I also work as a film programmer for Festival dei Popoli, the oldest documentary film festival in Europe, and as a script editor for the documentary development program Itineranze doc.
